Nile Rodgers & Jean Pierre Muller
Nile Rodgers & Jean Pierre Muller
Over two nights on the 21st and 22nd June Summerhall plays host to music legend Nile Rodgers for ‘Indigo Night’, a unique collaboration between Rodgers and Belgian artist, Jean Pierre Muller. As part of the 7×7 series of art and music events, Indigo Night sees Rodgers bring to life the cultural and social history of Harlem from the 1920s to the present day. This is a rare opportunity to get up close and personal with a genuine superstar in the intimate setting of Summerhall’s Dissection Room.
Nile Rodgers’ reputation as a musician, producer and performer is unparalleled. With his band, Chic, he has enjoyed numerous Top 10 hits and for the past thirty years has worked with the greats of the music industry. His recent immensely successful collaboration with French duo Daft Punk has produced ‘Get Lucky’, currently the fastest downloaded single of all time.
Rodgers is also a consummate storyteller. For Indigo Night he will interweave tales from his own life – as told in his best-selling autobiography Le Freak – into his recreation of the heady atmosphere of Harlem’s glory days in a Constructivist-inspired stage setting created by Jean Pierre Muller.
7×7 is a cross-arts collaboration between neo-pop artist Muller and seven musical luminaries – Nile Rodgers, Robert Wyatt, Mulatu Astatke, Archie Shepp, Sean O’Hagan, Kassin and Terry Riley that follows on from the success of last year’s 7x7th Street Exhibition of Muller’s sound sculptures at Summerhall.
