This documentary follows the career of singer Sinéad O’Connor through her rise to fame and how her iconoclastic personality led to her exile from the pop mainstream. The film charts O’Connor’s journey from 1987 to 1993, using archive footage to paint a richly cinematic portrait of the artist through a contemporary feminist lens. Directed by Kathryn Ferguson, Nothing Compares was in an official selection in the World Cinema Documentary Competition at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year and has gone on to win multiple awards including Best Irish Documentary at Galway Film Fleadh, the Audience Award for Best Documentary at Aegean Film Festival, and the Audience Awards at Docs Ireland.
