Winner of the Ecumenical Jury Prize at Berlinale 2020, Zero is thematically tied to Soda’s second film Mental though the filmmaker’s gaze is now directed at Dr Yamamoto, who is captured on the verge of his retirement, and his wife Yoshiko. The film not only pays homage to Yamamoto’s lifework but also celebrates his unrelenting commitment to helping others ten years after first capturing him on film.

2020 | 120 min | dir. Soda Kazuhiro
