Éric Barbier successfully and faithfully adapts Gaël Faye’s excellent novel about the Rwandan genocide seen through the eyes of a mixed-race child from neighbouring Burundi. Gabriel, aged 10, lives in a comfortable expatriate neighbourhood in Burundi (his Small Country) with his French entrepreneur father and Rwandan mother. Gabriel is happy, carefree, playing and having adventures with his friends and little sister. Until in 1993 tensions in neighbouring Rwanda spill over, threatening his family and his innocence.

The screening on Sunday 3 April (17:00) will be accompanied by an introduction and Q&A with journalist and editor Shiraz Sidhva.

"Maintaining the intimate and familial aspects of its source material, Petit Pays is both endearing and a sensitive portrayal of tragic events"Cineuropa
