Directed by John Huston and scripted by her then husband Arthur Miller, The Misfits stars Marilyn Monroe as Roslyn, a woman who travels to Reno to seek independence from a loveless marriage but falls in love with the rough cowboy Gay (Clarke Gable). Offering a nuanced performance in her final role, The Misfits is a much-watch for anyone looking beyond the so-called dumb blonde.
This film is screening as part of the Beyond Blonde season; a film programme celebrating Marilyn Monroe running from 15th September until 2nd October. The screenings on the 15th, 22nd and 29th will include a short introduction from Summerhall’s Cinema Curator.
