Painter, poet, and former tutor at the Glasgow school of Art, Jim Hardie has spent his eighties creating ‘Collisions’ a body of work that examines the connection between painter and subject.

Drawing on his day to day activities, from flying a Nord-11, to Inverkip meditation group and Millport poetry group, he creates collisions between disconnected worlds; a gannet and meditation; artist’s model becomes the painter, becomes the model.

Encounters with people he meets in everyday life: his dentist, a meditation tutor, a dog walker, the harbourmaster, a waitress and even the local computer shop owner, become values of texture, symbol, signs, as the models reveal their thoughts, inspiration and personal histories.

Every Minute of the Shortest Flight is a film created from Hardie’s flights across Scotland. He punched a hole in the belly of a plane and riveted a camera facing the ground. The shadow of the plane remains dead centre across the landscape. Hardie’s autobiographical book, The Naked Pilot, draws on his experiences over 80 years as an artist.
