Susa Joy Joy - A Shift in Perception

‘When I think of TRANSFORMATION my thoughts immediately take me to the beauty of our minds ability to transform emotions – for better or worse – due to how we choose to think. We all know it can be a challenge to stay positive – as we are all affected by internal and external influences in our daily lives. Based on this juxtaposition I want to create a transformational journey through the courtyard as a reminder that it is possible to shift our focus to the positive despite moments of darkness.

Inspired by old-fashioned lenticular billboards I want to create an advert for positive thinking and invite the viewer to explore both mindscapes through changing their angle of view. From bright to chaos, to dark and back – just like our thought processes can make us feel.

Both images toy with the viewers emotional state, therefore creating awareness and transforming their perception of their emotions. Learning to think differently allows us to realise that we all have a choice. Simply by asking the ultimate question we can change our worlds: ‘Can I influence it?’ If you can, change it! If not, let it go!’

About Susa Joy Joy

‘My work is focussed on positivity as well as bringing brightness and colour into our lives. I decided 5 years ago to shift my art solely to fit this purpose because I feel that there is too much negativity around us already. I am also always interested in the perception of optical illusions and try to create a wow-factor and unexpected experiences.

Whilst my main artistic disciplines are illustration and drawing now, I do not limit my artistic expression to these. I created room as well as light installations and did create long-last performances in the past. The message builds the foundation for the means’
